Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is an opportunity to assess the issues you wish to address. I will mainly be asking you about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to gain from our sessions. This will help me to understand what issues we will be working with and how I can help. I will also tell you a little about how I work.

You will have the opportunity to ask me questions and if you wish to choose me as your Counsellor I can send you more information and contracts via E mail. There is no obligation to book any further sessions following this.

What happens during a Counselling session?

Each session we will work together with what you choose to bring. Our sessions may vary depending on what you bring and whether the theme of the session is related or un-related to the previous weeks session. I will listen and support you throughout the session, helping you to understand on a deeper level why you feel the way you do.

I might ask questions, we may work on coping strategies but its important to remember that you don’t have to talk about anything that you don’t want to.

How will I feel after my session?

Each Client will experience different things after their therapy session. You might feel relieved or happy to have shared something that has been bothering you for so long.

Alternatively, you may feel exhausted/overwhelmed if you have found the session emotional.

Counselling can bring up difficult feelings and it might be hard at times, it’s important to share how you feel, so I can support you in the process.

How many sessions will I have?

This depends.  Counselling is a collaborative process between us both and depends on each individual person.  Some find significant relief from just a few sessions, whereas others may continue for several months.  We will regularly review where you are in the counselling process to see how you have progressed and what work you feel still needs attention.  You decide when to start and when to end.
